Boat Hull Calculator Area Calculator for Paints

How much Antifoul or Topcoat do I need? That's a question we often get asked.

Coverages of marine paints vary and so does the surface area from boat to boat so we have put together a couple of calculators which will tell you how many tins you will need to purchase of the specific paint you are looking at.

For it to work well you need to know certain dimensions of your boat, such as the length of the waterline, beam, draft and others for above the waterline surface. (This is explained on the calculator don't worry.)

How to Use

First, we need to calculate the surface area we need to paint, to do this, select the boat type you have from the options or if you want to paint above the waterline, choose freeboard.

When you enter the first number, our calculator will tell you what values are required to give you an answer.

You will get a meters squared answer, this number is what we will use below.

Please note, this calculator uses general formulas for each boat type but every boat is different so it is to be used as a guide to help you estimate how much paint you'll need and it may not be exact.

Now you know the surface area you need to paint, put this number the Surface Area to Paint (m²) field below.

Next enter the spreading rate, which can be found in the description of the paint you are looking at

Then the size of the tin in liters and our calculator will tell you how many tins you need to purchase for 1 and 2 coats.

750ml will be 0.75 for example.
